California
Most of our visits to California have been to the coastal areas from Santa Barbara north to San Francisco. The photographs in this gallery are arranged geographically, starting in Santa Barbara, then up the coast on Highway 1 to the Big Sur area and Carmel, then to San Francisco, Sausalito, and finally Napa Valley.
The Santa Barbara marina is chock full of boats.
Masts galore.
Sidewalk restaurants on State Street take advantage of Santa Barbara’s usually beautiful weather.

South of Carmel off of Highway 1—the California coast at dawn.
A full moon prepares to set over the Pacific.

Another Carmel dawn, gloomier this time.
On to San Francisco.
San Francisco Bay from the Golden Gate Bridge.
I finally made it here—forty years too late for the summer of love.
The neighborhood is still interesting, however.
When in San Francisco we always try to make at least one trip across the bridge or by ferry to Sausalito.
A day spent in Sausalito is always leisurely and pleasant.

Leaving Sausalito by ferry late in the day, the fog is rolling in.

Balloons over Napa Valley.
One morning we counted thirteen balloons in the air at once.
